BSI: Raising the competency across the built environment

The BSI have published a number of useful competency frameworks and guidance to address the fragmented approach, and lack of consistency in, the approach and standards the built environment adopt to assuring the competence of those working in the sector. This was a major flaw in the regulatory system identified by Dame Judith Hackitt in her reports following the 2017 Grenfell Fire tragedy.

They provide access to a free and very useful standards for the built environment as follows:

  • PAS 8670. Core criteria for building safety in competence frameworks - Code of practice
  • PAS 8671. Framework for Principal Designers
  • PAS 8672. Framework for individual Principal Contractors
  • PAS 8673. Competence requirements for the management of safety in residential buildings
  • An introduction to the built environment competence programme.
  • A watch-on-demand webinar on the competence standards programme.
